I picked this one up the same night I got the Fuck on the Beach/Matka Teresa split. This was put out by 625 Thrashcore so you should know what to expect here. They also do a bad ass Corrosion of Conformity cover. I would kill to be at some of their upcoming shows (as of when this post was written).

The name of this 7", 顰 (shikami) means knitted brows or frown and is also a type of mask used in 能 (Noh) plays for portraying angry evil spirits.

This record caught me by surprise in a very unusual way. The A side plays at 33 rpm and the B side plays at 45 rpm. I didn't notice until after I recorded the B side and it was way slower than the A side. I've always wondered if anyone out there has ever done that. I guess the answer is yes.

Also, in case anyone is curious, the tracklist on discogs.com for this 7" is wrong (track 8 specifically). You can double check the scans of the back and inside to see so yourself.

Fuck yeah! I've been looking for this one for a long time. I love Fuck on the Beach and a good digital copy of this split with Amsterdam grindcore outfit Matka Teresa has been impossible to find. Fortunately, Matt from Wild//Tribe had a copy in his awesome distro, Punk Alive Records, at a show this past evening. He doesn't have anything up for sale on his blog right now, but he said he would soon. You should definitely check it out. His prices are almost too fair.

Anyways, here's the split, freshly ripped and converted to V0 mp3. Covers included.

I've posted Chest Pain before. Now here's everything they did up until the last time I saw them, which was in October of last year. They've probably done ungodly amounts of writing and recording since then (or will do so in the near future) so this is by no means a current discography. Merely it is a snapshot of everything up until these tapes were made.

What you've got here is slightly over 22 minutes of raging non-stop angry hardcore. And as a bonus a short set from when they played at The Phoenix Project here in Dallas. I really can't recommend this enough.

I had to make some decisions myself about when one track ends and the other begins as some of the songs kinda blur together with only short bits of feedback giving any indication that a transition is occurring. I advise you to listen to it all at once and in order. Just a warning though, you'll probably be physically exhausted by the end of it.

Some records have no business being in the bargain bin. And yet that's where I found this gnarly power violence (and grindcore) compilation 7". It's as if whoever put it there didn't even bother to at least google a couple of the names on the front cover.

To be honest this is somewhat of a mixed bag. There's some real gems on here and some real head-scratchers. But I suppose that's sometimes part of the charm of this kind of music.

I've included scans of the insert which has more information on all the bands and the release itself.

Unfortunately my copy has some slight crackling and popping that I wasn't able to fix. To be honest though that really doesn't matter since nearly all the songs are so poorly recorded anyways. In fact, as with other recordings of this nature it might be a result of the recording process rather than the playback process.

Here's a split by Houston power violence maestro's Machine Gun Romantics and S.S.E..

If I remember correctly Machine Gun Romantics arose from xPOWERBUTTx (seriously). Alex Hughes has since gone on to play in Hatred Surge, Sacred Shock, and Iron Age. I can't say I know much about anyone else in the band though.

As for S.S.E., Scott from On My Side IMed me about his new band Plug (I'll post a link when I find out more) and knowing he's from Houston I asked him about S.S.E.

(9:29:38 PM) Scott: but also, those years i hung out with them and the other crowd were really formative for me... because not only was i into modern hc through the one crowd... i was also really into fast stuff... which kind of lent to the vibe of some of the early stuff that my band on my side did. also, one of the guys who was also friends with both "crowds" sold me a bunch of youth crew records and shirts that also really proved to be formative for me at the time. that guy has a slipknot tattoo now... next to a man is the bastard tattoo.
